Did you win? What did you do to prepare for the competition?

Tips for FBLA Objective Tests: Don't depend on one textbook. Ask your adviser for textbooks from various publishers. (Accounting--study the Glencoe and Cengage (South-Western) publishing textbooks) At an adviser meeting at the NFLC, the national staff members told us to make sure members READ the guidelines. Most of the questions on the tests come from the first several topics listed in the guidelines. FBLA practice tests can be purchased from the FBLA-PBL MarketPlace.

Job Interview: Something new this year--the Job Application must be completed BEFORE the conference and submitted with the resume and letter of application. The application is on the state website (http://www.scfbla.org) on the "Conferences" page. Follow guidelines as to the label information for the folder. You must make sure you are applying for a "real" job that is business related and one for which you will be prepared for by the end of the current school year. This is not an event in which you "make up" a job, qualifications, etc.

Public Speaking Events: Practice, practice, practice. Watch yourself in a mirror as you practice your speech or have someone videotape you and critique yourself. Search YouTube for videos. Several states and chapters have posted their winning members' speeches on this website. Watch the videos, make note of how the speaker stands, uses gestures, and of course, gives the speech. Do a search for "FBLA Public Speaking" videos.

These are just a few tips. I'm sure other members and advisers also have tips to share!

Money, money, money!
